Mazarin

This is a crispy little pop song by Mazarin who are touring with The Walkmen right now. I am loathe to use the word "crispy" in pretty much any context but it kind of works here, largely because of the drums. If you like this, I suggest dowloading "Another One Goes By" from their site.

The Kingdom

The Kingdom - I am Constellation
It doesn't hurt that this song involves singing in the round. The Kingdom come from Portland and will offer new music at the end of the summer. I found this track at Shake Your Fist about 5 months ago (where I find many good things) and somehow it slipped through the cracks until last week
The following description of The Kingdom comes from the SXSW 2005 site:
Though Westmoreland's distinctive poetics and metaphysics alone would make Unitas a compelling debut, the skyscraping vocals and keen melodies transform these songs from bedroom-born 4-track charm into basement party anthems, brimming with teenage abandon.

Heypenny

The odds of you immediately liking this song and its anthemic pulse are 1:1.25. Which are pretty good odds.
Should your interest be piqued, Heypenny offers more sound here and here.

Sunset Rubdown

Sunset Rubdown - They Took a Vote and Said No
I'm moved into a new house in a new city and pretty much settled. So I should return to posting more frequently, which is about twice a week. I should also quit whining about the dearth of good music in Aught Six. Because all of a sudden, a flood of good things.
Starting with this little march. Sunset Rubdown is the side project of Spence Krug from Wolf Parade and this song is worth your time. Especially the bass drum part. The CD is plenty cheap at Absolutely Kosher with free shipping and there is more to be heard at their myspace.

Arto Lindsay

Give it a chance, this track. You'll find yourself satisfied by the string arrangements that eventually sneak into the song. Arto Lindsay is a New York musician/producer extraordinaire who group up in Brazil during the heyday of the Tropicália movement.
