Top 10 of 2005
It's time for my top 10 albums of 2005 list.
(fart sound)
Also, here's a Belle & Sebastian song from their upcoming album The Life Pursuit. I forgot where I got this but I remember the person who posted it said the guitar solo was a little over the top. Not over the top, actually. Rather, it has a little tongue-in-cheek and should be listened to with a mild grin. I esp. like the females voices singing the echo-y "da-da-da-da."

The Double

I did that thing where you rank your iTunes songs according to play count within 2005 to see which ones I listened to the most. And this song was like in the 60s. And it should've been a little higher. Perhaps in the top 30. Because the roll of the percussion is kind of catchy and satisfying. Actually the whole thing is pretty catchy and satsifying. There's this dissonant screechy guitar that could be annoying, except that it stays in the background where it belongs and ends up being rather welcome.

Grandaddy

Grandaddy - Alan Parsons in a Winter Wonderland
The mp3 blogosphere has been inundated with Christmas covers and such. And almost zero of it is good. Almost. I prefer Andy Williams and Barbra Streisand anyway. But whatever. This is an excellent cover. Not because it's kind of clever, but because Grandaddy manages to capture whatever it is that good Christmas music captures.

Psapp

So, in fact, the singer for Team LG is also the singer for Psapp. Thanks to Knut and Astrid for the heads up. Psapp is a lot more jazzy and sound-effects-y than Team LG. Loads of bleeps, bips, bops, and so forth. You can hear more and learn the correct pronunciation of "Psapp" (which is what you would guess it is) at their myspace page.

Team LG

Maybe if you bought a pony like I asked...
This popped up on music (for robots) last week (where I find a lot of goods) and it was such that my hand was forced to put it up here. It's a bit melancholy, a bit catchy, a bit awesome.
Happily, a Team LG album is being released January 9 over here. Sadly, Team LG is now defunct.

Johann Sebastian Bach

Yo Yo Ma - Suite No. 1 in G Major
The thing about this piece is that sometimes it stops a guy in his tracks.

The Spinto Band

This track has popped up on about 30 other blogs over the past few months. This is because it's a good song and lately there has been a paucity of good songs.
More tracks at The Spinto Band website.
